Excited

Really liking Greek class so far--the professor actually involves us Internet students in the class--most check to see if we're there and then move on. Granted, he could talk louder (a lot), but I can put up with that.

Wrapping up my first homework--parsing and translations. My parsing was a little rough, but nice. The translations I'm loving--simple little sentences, but I've been able to do a couple of them without flipping back in the book to check my answers. Almost feel like I know what I'm doing here.

Just in the nick of time

Both classes start tomorrow. 3rd best argument against distance education: a 9:30 am class there (a decent time to get underway) equals a 7:30 am class here. Bah.

The last of my textbooks arrived today, A Preparatory Grammar to New Testament Greek by Sid Dyer. Scanned through the first few chapters and found the following under "Accent Marks."
Some grammarians emphasize the rules of accentuation. The student's time, however, is better spent on more important matters.
Wonderful. Never saw the points of accent marks once I was taught that they were added to the NT texts, and therefore couldn't get myself to learn them last time I took at shot at Greek.

Got my Hermeneutics texts last week, and aside from one being very used (and wasn't advertised as such), am very happy with them. Sampled Berkhof's Principles of Biblical Interpretation (tad on the pedantic side)as well as Kaiser and Silva's Introduction to Biblical Hermeneutics (am really enjoying reading this one). Might take Blomberg's Interpreting the Parables on the road trip with me this weekend to read through (it appears to be the best one suited for that).

Am very excited this term to be digging into more, um, seminarial type of work. Not that I had anything against the stuff I did last you, but Philosophy and Logic don't do as much to remind me about the nature of the work as these classes do, y'know?

Take Two

Just took my Old Testament Survey Entrance Exam. As reported, last year I just barely failed, so they wanted me to take it again, rather than go through all the hassle of having a distance student take this class. Pretty sure I did better--left 2 questions unanswered and there were about 6 questions I guessed at, but the rest I felt pretty confident about (if not downright cocky--"name the prophet swallowed by the great fish").

Sure hope I pass this time, I feel more confident about it than my NT test--and I passed it. Surely that counts for something, right?

Still, not entirely sure how knowing the name of David's last surviving son off the top of my head will serve me in a future pastorate, y'know? A lot of it was useful information, stuff that seems relevant, but much of it was "Daily Double" level of Jeopardy kind of info.

tick, tick, tick...

Textbooks are on the way, one syllabus in hand (one hopefully coming soon), classes start next week. Am looking forward to it. Think the workload will overwhelm me, but by the grace of God, it will be good for me.

Update on History Grade

Earlier, I'd reported that I was less than thrilled with my grade. Well, after having a couple of emails lost in transmission, I've gotten the news that he accepted those missing assignemtns, and my grade is up where it should be.

Very happy now.

21 days 'til Fall Term. Eeep.
